Breakfast: yummy baked oats ‘apple pie’

bakeds oatsI’m not really a breakfast kind of person: in my youth my family and I never had breakfast together. And in my adult live I never felt the need to change my breakfast habits. A quick bite, some fruit or a smoothie, standing in my kitchen or on my way to work, that’s about it. Does that sound familiar to you? However, in the past few years I’ve been reading more about nutrition and what the human body needs. Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day. So I decided to eat something every morning, to see what the effects are on my body. I started eating things like toasted bread with cucumber and avocado, or yogurt with granola. Of course I try to find yummy recipes on all kinds of blogs. Baked oats seem to be very popular at the moment so I decided to give it a go. Big surprise: I love it! Here’s my recipe, based on different recipes on the internet and with an added personal touch.

Ingredients for 1 person:
– 30 grams oat flakes
– 10 grams oatmeal
– 5 – 7 grams rye flakes
– 1/2 teaspoon coconut blossom sugar (optional)
– 150 ml almond milk
– 1/2 apple, peeled and diced
– 1/2 pear, peeled and diced
– 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
– a few walnuts
Optional: you can add other spices like nutmeg, anise or ginger for example. Of course you can add different kinds of fruit too.

Preperation method:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
Mix all the dry ingredients together, add milk and fruit. Stir well and put the mixture in a baking dish. Depending on the kind of dish you use, adjust the baking time. A deeper dish requires a little bit longer baking time. Put the dish in the oven and bake for 35 minutes. I prefer eating the baked oats hot.
